The structure located at 615 Harrison Ave. was originally built in 1938 and became the local Safeway. As time went on it became Sayer & McKee Drugs serving the locals of Leadville for many years until closing its doors in 2012.
Two years later during a brutal snowstorm and heavy snowfall accumulation, the roof at the front of the building collapsed under the weight. KW Construction and Restoration was on scene immediately to ensure the security of the building and begin cleaning up.
The owner of KW Restoration, seeing an opportunity to bring something new to the community, purchased the building and began planning reparations and to remodel the building. The key elements that they wanted to emphasize were the views from the roof of the building, the original rafters from 1938, and the location on main street. In our design concepts we knew we wanted two separate rental areas inside the building, a rooftop deck, and a courtyard in the front with a fire pit.
As the construction process continued some elements of the building changed, but the finished product turned out beautiful. The building itself was finished in 2014. Then, came construction for the restaurants that will occupy the spaces.
The first restaurant to rent one space of 615 Harrison Ave. was Treeline Kitchen which opened in May of 2017. Treeline Kitchen has a beautiful bar, custom mural, and the original brick accent wall. The restaurant space also offers a more private lounge space in the back and rooftop dining housing spectacular views of Mount Massive and Mount Elbert.
In 2019 The Silver Llama Eatery opened in the second half of the KW Plaza. Offering breakfast, lunch, and many other delicious treats the Silver Llama is a unique space from anything else in Leadville. The restaurant has a upstairs lounge area customers can enjoy and overlook the front courtyard and main street.
The disaster of the roof caving out tuned into something that brought value back to the space and brighten up main street Leadville as well. It is nice to be a part of the growth of Leadville, and give businesses a place to succeed.
